Mr. Healdsburg Pageant
Sat Feb 22, 2014

THE ZANY fundraiser they've all
been talking about..

An all-male parody of the event everyone loves to hate: the anachronistic beauty contest. Come watch local gentlemen vie for the (plastic) crown by competing in all the usual categories: beachwear, formalwear, talent, and interview. This is a FUNDRAISER for the Raven, and your votes (with $$$) help determine the finalists.

MUST BE 21 to attend!
Attendees cannot bring their own food or alcohol.
ID and bags will be checked by security.

The Mr. Healdsburg Pageant is in its 11th year and is one of the Raven's most important fundraisers, bringing in around $20K each year. We have five local female judges who represent a broad cross-section of the community, and the audience members also judge the contestants by donating $$ to a specific contestant (via online donations, and at the event). This year Mr. Healdsburg 2013, Paul Downey, will perform a farewell song.

Why? "I'm a health and safety instructor and a winemaker (Chavez Family Cellars). I love to see people happy and love to celebrate life, good friends, and family. The 3 great loves of my life: Linda, Carlin, and my little one Elsa. I want Healdsburg to be a great town and I want to contribute my part. Amazing but true: When I moved to the U.S. at age 15 I didn't know how to speak English, but I could sing "Do You Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart. "

Vito Carano

Why? "I'm a waiter & winebuyer, for Chalkboard. Also an apprentice sommelier and avid gamer. I teach kids to play pencil & paper games. Reader. Pursuant of God. Ever seeking Never finding. I'm fairly new to town and this fundraiser is a great way to orient myself in what I am calling my New Hometown. Healdsburg is about to find out what it means to have ME live in this awesome town!"

Mike Lucia

Why? "I’m competing for the zillion endorsement deals & freebies I might get! I’m a winemaker for Copain. My first harvest was after high school in ’96 and I’ve been hooked since. My family is Downtown Cindi Brown, Marty with the Party, Dan Lucia ak DL Phatburger and Jaiden Lucia aka J-Dawg. I like being outdoors foraging mushrooms, hiking, golf, disc golf, camping are all in my wheelhouse. Food. I love food. I champion eating and drinking. BUT – I fear wearing cycling clothing."

Jim Morris

Why? " I am the GM of a fabulous winery, MacPhail Family Wines. My wife, Donna del Rey, owns Relish Culinary Adventures. 2 kids: Gus, a senior and star basketball player at HHS, and Gillian, a sophomore and beautiful young lady. I have a paper bag collection; am a nuclear physicist; I have solved every NY Times crossword puzzle; I won The America's Cup; I have won a Pulitzer, Tony, Grammy, Nobel, Oscar, and was voted most likely to own a small country in High School; I am Daniel Craig's stunt double in all of the Bond movies; I was Matthew McConaughey AND Channing Tatum's body double in Magic Mike; I discovered a word that rhymes with Orange; I have been to the moon. I'm convinced this contest can springboard me into politics. Would you believe I'm painfully shy? Didn't think so. "

John "RJ" Nolan

Why? "I’ve had a successful business career. Now that I’m retired, every day is different. I’m a huge Bing Crosby Story – ask me about my Bing story! I’m working on developing a  “Tribute to Bing” concert, with proceeds to charity and Wounded Warriors Project."

Jack Oswald

Why? "I'm a "parallel" entrepreneur - building more than 1 company at the same time. Plus, I have 3 renewable fuels companies - Syngest, AliphaJet, and Optinol - and one in the area of nutritional supplements called ISOThrive. It's all possible because I'm married to a wonderful supportive woman, Anneke Seley, and we have no kids. I LOVE to cook; our new wood-fired pizza oven has been an amazing gift. I fly for Angel Flight transporting needy children to get medical care. I'm on the board of trustees and faculty at UC Merced and on the faculty at LSU in BatonRouge. I swim and bike and have been roped into doing an Olympic distance triathlon sometime this year. I speak French and Italian, play the trumpet, guitar, and a little flute, sax and piano.
I was the first person to tightrope walk between the Twin Towers in NYC… but since I was dressed in all black on a moonless night, no one could see me and the pictures didn't capture it either. "

Tom Ribbecke

Why? "I am a Luthier and guitar player, my band is The Bench Doggs -all famous woodworkers and artisans. I love baseball - playing and watching it, belong to national musical organizations, and am active politically and an advocate for troubled youth. I'm competing in this fundraising event to support the Raven, and give something back to this incredible town. I grew up in Brooklyn in Flatbush, and can turn my accent on and off! "

Roman Villemaire

Why? "My parents wisely settled here back in the 70s. I graduated from HHS with a BS in devolution. For many years I have done painting & repairs for local celebrities. I specialize in the impossible and ridiculous.
I like extra sharp cheddar, exclusively. I am a fancy lad. Who among us is fit to be Mr. Healdsburg? Probably me. "

Arte Whyte

Why? "Presently the hired know-it-all at Shelton's. A single dad of two awesome daughters. Performed at Universal and Nickelodeon, one for Jimmy Stewart. Currently in the Raven Players production of "Don't Drink the Water." Presently writing a syfy novel (hopefully published online this year).
Hey -- you need to know this: I'M STILL SINGLE!"
